Indoors Locality Positioning Using Cognitive Distances and Directions

Spatialrelationshipsarecrucialtospatialknowledgerepresentation,suchaspositioninglocalities.However,minimalattentionhasbeendevotedtopositioninglocalitiesindoorswithlocalitydescription.Distanceanddirectionrelationsaregenerallyusedwhenpositioninglocalities,namely,translatingdescriptivelocalitiesintospatiallyexplicitones.Weproposeajointprobabilityfunctiontomodellocalitydistributiontoaddresstheuncertaintyofpositioninglocalities.Thejointprobabilityfunctionconsistsofdistanceandrelativedirectionmembershipfunctions.Weproposedefinitionsandrestrictionsfortheuseofthejointprobabilityfunctiontomakethelocalitydistributionhighlypractical.Wealsoevaluatetheperformanceofourapproachthroughindoorexperiments.Testresultsdemonstratethatapositioningaccuracyof3.5mcanbeachievedwiththesemanticallyderivedspatialrelationships.
